DECODE 2020 to gather IT professionals, tech experts in three-day virtual conference

Professionals from the Information Technology (IT) industry in the country and international tech experts will gather on November 10 to 12 for the premier cybersecurity conference in the Philippines. Dubbed DECODE, the annual conference is organized by Trend Micro Inc, a global leader in cybersecurity.

The three-day conference, which will feature various industry experts from different parts of the globe to speak about the latest developments in the cyber world, presents an immense opportunity to IT professionals in the country to network, learn and share knowledge among their peers.

DECODE will have more than 40 virtual breakout sessions during the event’s three-day run and a panel discussion of threat experts, where participants learn about various latest global trends on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Protection and Privacy, Cybercrime and Incident Response, among others.

The conference, which will be conducted virtually this year due to the COVID-19 crisis, aims to share to local technology professionals up-to-date information about the threat landscape, industry trends, and new technologies in order to empower them to secure the digital infrastructures of their organizations, as well as to inspire them to embark on a continuous learning journey.

This year’s theme, “ELEVATE! Transform Rapidly, Seamlessly, Securely,” calls for transformation in the cyber industry with the rise of new threats concerning organizations.

IT professionals must always be equipped not only with the right tools, but with the right skills and knowledge. In the fight to keep the connected world safe and secure, these cyber defenders must elevate beyond the ordinary and transform rapidly, seamlessly, securely.

Six international speakers will deliver keynote addresses during this year’s DECODE confab.

Martin Rösler, Senior Director of the Trend Micro Forward-Looking Threat Research (FTR) team, will give a talk on “The Game Changer – How the Pandemic is Changing Your World”. In this session, Rösler will look at some of the new cyber risks, threats, and challenges the world is facing today.

A presentation on “Innovation or Disruption” will also be delivered by Myla Pilao who leads the security research communications at Trend Micro. Pilao will examine how countries and organizations are being disrupted by a myriad of digital threats and risks, and why it’s crucial that they reexamine their existing security architecture to make it robust against present cyber threats.

Robert McArdle, the Director for Cybercrime Research of the FTR team, will discuss “Cybercrime in 2020 and Beyond: Not Everything Changes in a Pandemic”. McArdle will delve into how cybercrime, as an industry, has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Melissa Hathaway, president of Hathaway Global LLC and a leading expert in cyberspace policy and cybersecurity who served in two U.S. presidential administrations, will present a discussion dubbed as “Exposed: Attack Surfaces Widen as the World Increasingly Relies on Digital Infrastructures”. In this session, she will share about the increased reliance on digital tools and broader exposure to cyber risks to ramp scam individuals, ransom businesses, disrupt critical infrastructures, and attack governments at all levels.

Philip Casanova, a Partner at SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co.’s Technology Consulting, will share timeless principles that he learned in his over two-decade journey as a cybersecurity professional in his talk dubbed as “Principles to Live by for Cybersecurity Leaders”. His presentation aims to strengthen the mindset, persona, and posture of current and aspiring cybersecurity leaders in this evolving cyber threat landscape.

Craig Jones, Director of Cybercrime INTERPOL, will talk about INTERPOL’s Global Cybercrime Programme which aims to reduce the global impact of cybercrime and protect communities for a safer world. In the “Cybercrime Through the Lens of Law Enforcement and Private Partners” session, Jones will discuss why it is crucial that law enforcement agencies and private partners collaborate in investigations to thwart cybercriminal operations and reduce the risks it could pose to ordinary users and enterprises.

Learn about cybersecurity in this digital age as the country’s premier cybersecurity event goes virtual. DECODE 2020 will be on November 10-12 with the theme “ELEVATE! Transform Rapidly, Seamlessly, Securely.” Tracks about Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Protection and Privacy, and more will be presented by renowned industry experts from around the world.

Casa Buenas http://jessejake.com/2020/casa-buenas/ Fri, 13 Mar 2020 11:01:19 +0000 http://jessejake.com/?p=1880

Every once in a while, a restaurant surprises me. May it be a particular dish, their interior, quality service, or by sheer ingenuity. This time, for the first time for so long, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by my all around experience at Casa Buenas. Yes! It is a dining experience one should try.

As you enter Casa Buenas, you are greeted with stunning ‘Bahay na Bato’ inspired interior design. Stunning, even, is an understatement. In my opinion, it was breathtaking. Having studied Architecture and not being able to research about the restaurant before we dined, I was literally in awe!

The really nailed the subtle modern take of their inspiration. It was a feast for the eyes with minute details worthy of praise and conversation. There are somewhat different themes in every corner. However, they were still able to make every part of the restaurant coherent to the nostalgia that is classic Filipino ancestral home. Of course, taken to a whole other level.

Iberico Pork Jowl

It’s virtually impossible for you to order the wrong dish, soup, dessert, and what not. Everything on the menu is an explosion of flavor each with its own gastronomic identity. This is where ingenuity comes in. They perfectly put in their own twist, just enough, to create a fresh take on Spanish influenced Filipino cuisine. After which, you are immediately drawn back to a familiar taste that we all love to savor.

Gambas
Paella Negra
Shrimp Isaw

I must say, they serve food that has been crafted close to perfection. I took one single bite of the ‘Shrimp Isaw’ and I knew that these dishes weren’t offered on the menu without thorough research and development. I’m quite sure that even the most discerning palate will enjoy the flavors of Casa Buenas.

Tablea Chocolate Fondant

As of writing, they only offer three desserts. Being one of the biggest sweet tooth around, I had to try all three! So you can trust me when I say, “They only need three desserts to leave you craving for at least one of these.”

Ube and Cheese Souffle

I am not the biggest fan of cheese on desserts but Casa Buenas’ Ube and Cheese Souffle is an absolute exemption! They harmoniously married the two flavors together. A heavenly soft souffle which melts in your mouth and turns into this creamy ube and cheese goodness!

Emperador Strudel

The Emperador Strudel is, no question, my favorite! I could eat five of these. It’s a combination of creamy, a little crisp, and a refreshing flavor all throughout. Amidst all that, it manages to give you a little kick with that brandy infused cream.

From left to right: Mae Bernardo, Jesse Jake Daan, Chef Godfrey Laforteza, Dr. Xavier Solis, Apollo Santos.

“The reason why our menu is small is so everybody can concentrate on the standard of the food,” Laforteza said.

I am all praises and compliments to Chef Godfrey Laforteza! He created a new standard for Filipino food. It maybe a small menu but it is big on flavor. Casa Buenas, like a said, is an experience. A feast for the eyes, the ears, the nose, and the mouth!

Casa Buenas is open daily from 11AM to 1AM. They are located at the Ground Floor of Newport Grandwing, Portwood St., Newport City. You can contact them through +63 (2) 7908-8988, +63 917 878 8312, or Email them at casa.buenas@rwmanila.com

Burgundy in Cambodia http://jessejake.com/2020/burgundy-in-cambodia/ Sat, 29 Feb 2020 09:44:36 +0000 http://jessejake.com/?p=1865

A few months back, I was fortunate enough to visit Siem Reap, Cambodia. It was my first time and I was beyond excited. I was given a very specific itinerary which was exactly what I needed. I was able to meticulously plan out my looks for each of our temple visits.

This was part of the itinerary that was also time specific. We had to leave the hotel at around 4 AM to catch the sunrise at Angkor Wat. After the sunrise, we were also set to go back to the hotel and eat breakfast before heading out, again, to tour around the other temples.

Taking note of the time and knowing exactly how Angkor Wat looks like at sunrise, I knew what I wanted to wear. I also knew it wasn’t going to be as hot and/or humid considering we’ll be there just before the break of dawn.

I know we were in Cambodia but I wanted to emulate someone who is taking ootd shots around the castles in Europe while while having that dusk vibe influence in India. It’s a little hard to explain but it’s a clear vision in my head. I think the ootd shots shows exactly what I mean. haha

This is the look I came up with. I wore this cream colored long sleeved shirt to start with. It falls perfectly right off my shoulders which makes it look a little relaxed. I just kept some parts unbuttoned too. If you look closely, it has textured lines with a few patterns. It’s very subtle which was perfect so that I could pair it with my Dior burgundy patterned scarf. That way, the patterns do not clash at all nor does it become a confusing eyesore.

The pants are also in burgundy to tie in with the scarf. They are tailored to bring in structure to the look. Still, I pin rolled the hem to maintain that somewhat relaxed feel. Wore super dark brown loafers with a mustard layer on it’s sole. Details! Always look for details to match with other pieces on your look. That single layer matches with the mustard line on the scarf which is why it works well with the whole outfit.

I finished the look with these round sunglasses. I did not expect them to work with my face shape since they are quite small. To my surprise, they did perfectly well. I also love the orange gradient lens. It gave me that dusk in India vibe. Haha

I still have a couple of outfits from this trip. Promise to post them soon. Those might give you ideas on what to wear and consider on your next trip both domestic and abroad.

1978 http://jessejake.com/2020/1978/ Thu, 27 Feb 2020 09:54:45 +0000 http://jessejake.com/?p=1847

Montebello Villa Hotel invited me along with my friends, Ching Sadaya of chingsadaya.com and Chennie Montero of @chenniemontero on YouTube, for a fun shoot. This was also in partnership with Tour de Cebu 2019. Ofcourse, the first question I had in mind was, “What should I wear?” The 1978 film ‘Grease’ is what immediately popped in my head! Well because… vintage cars!

This look was literally easy to put together since I already had a concept in mind. Also, the pieces needed for this look are literally staple wardrobe basics.

I started off with a plain white shirt that’s somewhat fitting. Not too tight, though. You don’t want to look like you’re about to break out of that shirt. I paired it with a pair of black jeans. They are a little washed out to put a subtle rugged texture to the look. Topped it all off with this vintage black leather jacket. All thank to my grandpa for that! You can also opt to wear a black denim jacket for this.

In true grease fashion, I wore white socks and black leather shoes. Cuffed my jeans to show off those white socks and we have the complete look!

I made some really small changes to somewhat update the look. I switched the black leather belt for a black military belt. Also chose to wear over sized wayfarers instead of aviators. Last was the cuffing. I went for a pin roll to create a more modern silhouette for the jeans.

That’s it! It was relatively easy coming up with this look. The only thing that was hard for me was the humidity. Haha Wearing a leather jacket outdoors on a gloomy day may look good but it’s seriously a bad idea in my case.

Shout out to Ryan Seismundo for these photos. You, my friend, are an incredible photographer!

Juan Effect: It’s time for Bohol http://jessejake.com/2020/juan-effect-bohol/ Wed, 19 Feb 2020 18:38:22 +0000 http://jessejake.com/?p=1825

Cebu Pacific Air launched a sustainable tourism advocacy called “Juan Effect” two years ago. This is to educate and encourage travelers and locals alike to help preserve the environment.

Tourism is one of the Philippines’ major economic driver. More than just presenting and showcasing what our country has to offer, tourism generates employment opportunities and creates an atmosphere conducive for businesses to thrive. This means a huge chunk of our fellow Filipinos have tourism as their main source of income. Take note, ‘main’ source of income.

We simply cannot afford to just let our beautiful destinations degrade. This is where Cebu Pacific Air’s “Juan Effect” advocacy comes in. It’s quite simple yet makes a huge impact if we all join the bandwagon. The idea is to do at least one simple daily habit done consistently. May it be throwing your trash accordingly in trash bins, or bringing your own refillable tumbler, or bringing an eco bag and refusing single use plastics. One small act done collectively makes a huge difference.

Ofcourse, Cebu Pacific Air, the Department of Tourism, and partner establishments is here to help us. They started with Boracay in 2018 which was followed by Siargao in 2019. They have put up recycle signages for us to be mindful and they have also installed trash bins in famous tourist destinations. These are just a few of their “Juan Effect” initiatives.

This year, it’s time for Bohol. We are so blessed that most of our islands and tourist destination are still very well kempt. Bohol is definitely one of those islands. It is also one of CEB’s most popular destinations. Still, that is no reason for us to be complacent. There is still time for us to preserve this beaut.

Juan Effect Bohol launched with an information campaign through signages installed in Bohol’s most popular tourist attractions like the Chocolate Hills, the Tarsier Sanctuary, and the Loboc River Cruise. These multi-lingual signages, made out of recycled wood, carry reminders of simple things to do or behaviors to observe while visiting these attractions.

“It is important to strike a balance between growing the tourism industry and preserving the very assets that attract tourists,” said Candice Iyog, Vice President for Marketing and Customer Experience at Cebu Pacific. “Bohol has seen its tourist arrivals grow in the past year. We are adopting it as a Juan Effect site to do our part in reminding our travelers to conserve its ecological and cultural treasures.”

Join Cebu Pacific in keeping the Philippine islands clean and beautiful by making a pledge at www.juaneffect.com.

9 Gift Ideas for Men http://jessejake.com/2019/9-gift-ideas-for-men/ Sun, 15 Dec 2019 09:48:12 +0000 http://jessejake.com/?p=1740

It has always been a problem. Finding gifts for men is a daunting task. Last year, I did some gift ideas that might interest your guy. This year is a little different. These will be gift ideas which your guys might ‘need’ as well or they did not know they need. Also, I am now considering the quality of the products so I’ll be recommending specific items too. Hey! Us guys can get a little rough with the things we use. Haha

9. Swiss Army Knife

This might come off as an unconventional gift to some but this portable tool is very useful! Specially for guys who are handy. This nifty tool come in different variants depending on what your guy might need. If you have no idea what he might need. Here’s a tip. Make sure there’s a knife, a can-slash-bottle opener, and a pair of scissors. Those are the basics. If you can go for more that would be even better!

If you are going to get one for your guy, get it from the original manufacturer of the swiss army knife, Vicotrinox! My dad had one which lasted for as long as I can remember. I practically grew up with it. That reminds me, I should get one! Haha

8. Hydro Flask

Yes, this is very specific. There are a lot of flasks out there and tumblers as well. I have bought, been given those, and have tried them out. As of writing, Hydro Flask is the only flask which I could not let go of. Before I got one, I didn’t even know that I needed to bring one almost all the time. It has proven to be useful, functional, and convenient for me.

Here’s why. It keeps your drink cold or hot for as long as 24 hrs. If left unopened, even more. The one I currently have has a protruding screw cap which makes it easier to clean and an added feature to prevent leakage. It also has a small handle which is very useful when your just carrying your flask from one equipment to the other at the gym. You can bring this to a camping trip, trekking, or just on a casual day. It is also looks pretty cool with a lot of colors, sizes, and styles to choose from. You can also get additional lids for different functionalities. Whew! There’s a lot more but you can go ahead and discover that for yourself. Hey, you can get your guy one and get yourself one too! haha Trust me, it’s a totally worth-it buy.

7. Cap

A cap! As simple as that. We guys also get bad hair days or we’re just to lazy to care about our hair. A cap is the perfect cover up. Haha Hey, it’s also a very cool way to complete a look!

Just make sure to get the color and style that your guy usually wears. I would recommend getting a net snap back because it is breathable and adjustable as well. Try to stick with basic colors like blue, black, white, or beige. Stay away from bright colors and prints unless he told you himself.

6. Belt bag/Waist Pack

This one has been on trend lately maybe because we discovered a cool and more secure way of wearing it. This is not going away anytime soon. Guys like things to be convenient and this is one of the most convenient way to bring, better yet wear, our valuables.

They come in a lot of designs. However, you might as well go all the way on this one. This one it from Travelon. What’s special about it aside from its quality is its RFID blocking pockets. RFID stands for ‘Radio-Frequency Identification.’ Having your smartphone and wallet right across your chest might be secure but thieves nowadays have become innovative. They now come with high tech equipment. Which means, they can now get your credit/debit card information without even seeing the card. They just have to get near you.

Again, for this one, stick to basic color. Perhaps lean towards black, brown, gray, or even white! This makes it easier to pair with different outfits,

5. T-Shirt

This can be a little tricky. However, it can also be as easy as plain white, black, or blue shirt. These are staple wardrobe pieces which your guy can definitely wear. The tricky part is the size. With men, fit is everything! With that, there are different kinds of ‘fit’ as well. Haha Tricky, right? Some like it a little over sized, some like it to fit perfectly, and some like it a little tight. No matter what he likes, if you go for the plain colors, just go for the standard fit. This is so he can use the shirt as an undershirt, layer it with a hoodie, wear it as is, and what not.

Considering how hot it is in the Philippines, you might want to get him a quick drying shirt. I got one from North Face in blue and the fit is impeccable. The great thing about quick drying shirts is that they are so comfortable, airy, and light! If your guy doesn’t have one yet, he’s definitely going to need one.

4. Shorts

Again, it is very hot here in the Philippines. If only I can wear shorts all day everyday. I definitely would. That’s why a pair of shorts would be great gifts for men. In this case, I am going to be very specific.

Up your guy’s game by getting him these Amphibian Shorts from Quicksilver. Why? You are hitting two birds with one stone here. These shorts are quick drying too. This means they can be worn as swim shorts and they can be worn on a casual day out. It’s light and airy which makes it very comfortable. It’s very compact when folded. You can even put it in your pocket. They come in different colors too. I’m sure you’ll be able to find one that suits your guy.

3. Backpack

You cannot argue with this. Backpacks are very useful and convenient. Those two characteristics are basically what men take value on these days. Also, you can just throw in your stuff in there and you are good to go. However, there are a lot of different backpacks suited for varied uses.

For basic everyday use, I suggest you a get a Parkland backpack. All because they are very durable and, the greatest thing about it, it is made from recycled bottles! Aside from that, they also come in classic silhouettes which mean you can never go wrong when getting one.

Another is for the sporty kind of guy. You can opt to get one from North Face because they are always in super high quality. They also have a lot of designs to choose from which are tailored to whatever activity you might embark in.

There are a ton of options out there which is tailored to what might be of utmost use for your guy. You just need to figure out what kind of backpack does your guy need.

2. Wallet

This is a classic! Guys usually just forget about it. We rarely think of getting a new one. We just use one wallet until it falls apart. Haha Seriously, we do. So, get him a new one before that thing in his pocket disintegrates.

The best way to go is to get him a leather wallet in either black or brown. Leather just simply lasts longer and it also happens to be very stylish without being outlandish. This one is from Element. You are going to want to get him a durable wallet because, again, he’s probably going to use it forever. Haha ‘Element’ is no doubt on of those brands that make quality products.

You can also get him a canvas wallet for a more casual style. Get one from Herschel because of their Heavyweight Cotton Canvas material which is well known for its durability.

1. Shoes

If women loves their bags. Guys love their shoes! I , for one, am guilty of that. Also, if he isn’t really into shoes. I’m sure he needs a new one.

Like other items here on the list, there are a lot of options to choose from and there are also different kinds of shoes. You can get him leather ones for special occasions, for work, or for an interview. You can also get him trainers if he likes athleisure wear or if he actually works out.

There are also good ones from Salomon that are used for trekking and/or hiking which, I am sure, will be a delight for those who love the outdoors.

You can also get him shoes from DC which happens to be really great shoes for casual day to day use too. They also come in easy to pair with designs.

However, you and your guy might not know this yet but these Tretorn sneakers are a must have! Better yet, it is a ‘need’ and I can definitely vouch for that. Before I got one, I just thought that they look cool with its classic silhouette. When I tried them on, it was divine!

I have used them basically anywhere for more than a year now. From trips, errands, events, marathons, at work, and even at the gym! They are beyond comfortable and multi-functional. You can check out this link for more details about it.

So, that rounds it up for this year’s gift ideas for men! I was supposed to make a video about this but I still have to figure out how to edit one. Haha I hope this helps for future reference, not just for Christmas, but for other special occasions that might require a gift!

CebuDoc Spectral CT Scan: A first in the Philippines http://jessejake.com/2019/cebudoc-spectral-ct-scan/ Tue, 24 Sep 2019 12:42:40 +0000 http://jessejake.com/?p=1689 It’s actually amazing that I have never had to go through a CT Scan. If ever I will be advised to get a CT Scan, Cebu Doctors University Hospital would be the only place I would head to! Why? Simply because the world’s first and only detector-based Spectral CT with Ambient Experience is now in CebuDoc!

Albeit a very expensive acquisition CebuDoc is committed in bringing the latest diagnostic technology for the Filipinos. With the pursuit of providing excellent healthcare in mind, CebuDoc is the first in the country to install Ispectral CT Technology with Ambient Experience that helps in reducing patients’ stress and anxiety. Also, rates for the Spectral CT Scan is the same as that of the current conventional CT Scan. With that said, they will decrease the rates for the convention CT Scan.

“Since then, CebuDoc has always been committed to bringing the latest healthcare technology for the Filipinos, especially for the Cebuanos. This is just one of the many efforts we do to boost our diagnostic confidence for a more reliable and credible diagnosis,” said Dr. Potenciano “Yong” S.D. Larrazabal, III, CebuDoc Group President and Chairman of the Board.

In some cases, this is literally a life saver. With such technology, the diagnosis will be faster, follow-up scans will be lesser, and data integrity is improved. This also saves you time and money as you will no longer need to get a CT scan for the second time. The images and visualizations produced by the Philips IQon Spectral CT Scan at CebuDoc are significantly clearer than those of conventional CT scans.

“With the healthcare challenges that the world is facing today – an aging population, the rise of chronic diseases and resource constraints – the healthcare industry needs solutions that deliver extraordinary diagnostic quality, empowering clinicians to improve clinical confidence and make the right diagnosis in the first scan,” said Ashwin Chari, country manager, Philips Philippines Inc.

CebuDoc commits that every scan is spectral without compromise. The IQon Spectral CT aims to easily accommodate a wide range of patient sizes from pediatric to bariatric and that they will have an improved visualization and characterization of tissues resulting in diagnostic certainty that will lead to better patient care.

“We’re very happy with this Philips solution, which supports our endeavor to bring quality healthcare closer to all Cebuanos. With the Philips IQon Spectral CT we can deliver more confident patient diagnoses in the first scan, representing a revolution in CT performance here in CebuDoc,” concludes Dr. Yong.

When it comes to our health, we all deserve the best. The Philips IQon Spectral CT Scan with Ambient Experience at CebuDoc is truly a bang for the buck. It makes sure that you get exactly what you pay for and more. Hey, that ambient experience makes me want to get a CT scan even when I don’t need to get one.

For inquiries, you can visit CebuDoc Radiology Department or call (032) 255 5555 local 110.

A Kilo of Kindness 2019 http://jessejake.com/2019/a-kilo-of-kindness-2019/ Mon, 02 Sep 2019 06:36:45 +0000 http://jessejake.com/?p=1635 Now on it’s fifth year, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts’ ‘Kilo of Kindness’ global charity campaign still lends a helping hand to people in need one kilo at a time. The first time I heard about this initiative, I was immediately in awe of the title. All because it defines something intangible into something visible… into something that has weight both figuratively and literally.

This year the ‘Kilo of Kindness’ campaign calls on guests to donate at least one kilo of food, clothing, and educational supplies. Of course, you can donate more kilos if you want.

You actually don’t have to be a guest to donate. You can always head to Mövenpick and drop your donations at the main lobby. However, Mövenpick Hotel Island Cebu has made donating even more convenient for Cebuanos. You can now drop your donations at the box inside the Ibiza Bus parked at Ayala Center Cebu! These donations will then be distributed local partner charities.

“Our Kilo of Kindness campaign has grown immensely since its inception and in 2019 we are rallying support worldwide across all channels, within our hotels and local communities, in the hope to make this year the most successful yet,” said Nick Bosworth,  Vice President Brand Management, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts.

Just in case you have no idea what to donate. Here’s a list of high-priority items for donation.
